Ingredients
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp fine salt
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Method
- 1Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- 2Cream together the butter and both sugars.
- 3Add the egg and vanilla and combine.
- 4If you are making double chocolate, add melted chocolate now.
- 5Add the baking soda, salt, and 1/2 cup of the flour.
- 6Once combined, add the remaining 1/2 cup flour.
- 7Mix in the chocolate chips.
- 8Using a large spoon, shape the dough into balls, about 6 per cookie sheet.
- 9Bake for 8 minutes, then pull the pan out and smack it against the counter to flatten the cookies and create crispy edges with chewy centers.
- 10Return to the oven for 5 more minutes, then smack the pan once more when they are done.
- 11Let the cookies cool on the sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a rack or eat one right away.
Notes
- Smacking the tray on the counter, gives you that flat, crispy edge, but leaves a gooey center.
Swaps
- Add 1/2 cup melted chocolate chips for a batch of double chocolate chip cookies.
Use It Again
- Freeze a few dough balls to bake fresh cookies later in the week.
- Pack one in a kid's lunch and be a hero.
