Fresh Berry Salad

This isn't really salad. I only call it a salad because everything goes into a bowl. It's just fresh seasonal berries that balance almost every meal from breakfast to dessert.

Flexable

StrawberriesBlueberriesRaspberries
Ingredients
16 ounce strawberries
8 ounce raspberries
8 ounce blueberries
8 ounce blackberries (optional)
Method
  1. 1Wash and dry all of the berries.
  2. 2Quarter the strawberries.
  3. 3Place the strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries into a large serving bowl.
  4. 4Layer the berries rather than stirring to keep the raspberries intact and the presentation pretty.
  5. 5Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to eat.
Notes
  • don't toss the berries together because the raspberries mash easily and the blueberries sink to the bottom.
  • For extra sweetness, sprinkle with a little sugar or stir in 1 tablespoon strawberry jam, just like my mom used to.
  • A drizzle of balsamic glaze turns this into a simple summer dessert.
  • Keeps well in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.
Swaps
  • Use any combination of berries.
  • Add chopped fresh mint or basil.
  • Cherries, peaches, nectarines, and plums are excellent additions in the summer.
Use It Again
  • Serve over yogurt and granola for breakfast.
  • Spoon over waffles, pancakes, or French toast.
  • Top vanilla ice cream for an easy dessert.
  • Pack leftovers for snacks throughout the week.
